Description
At the end of the 19th century, the craze for rum was unprecedented, fueled by a French vineyard then ravaged by phylloxera. It was late April 1902 when François-Marius Fanton loaded his ship with his last shipment of rum: a certain Madinina rum, pure sugarcane juice aged for 7 years in oak casks. It was late April, and in a few days, on May 8th to be precise, Mount Pelée would erupt, suffocating the city of Saint-Pierre and its 30,000 inhabitants…
The rum was aged for 7 years, distilled in 1895 and bottled between 1904 and 1906 by the M. Fanton & Fils company.
