The story of Karukera begins in 2005 when Grégoire Hayot joins forces with François Longueteau with the firm intention of promoting the aging of rums produced by the Espérance distillery, located on the agricultural estate of the Marquisat de Sainte Marie.
The estate cultivates several varieties of sugar cane, in particular blue and red cane, which François Longueteau pampers with extreme care. The fermentation is as spontaneous as possible and artisanal, and the distillation takes place on a Savalle column of 28 trays. The rum thus distilled is transferred to Karukera who takes care of the aging process but also the brewing of the whites.
The first vintage was officially created in 2006 and a brand new cellar was built in the process, also including a store.
