Here is a bottle of Don Q stamped "Gold Label 5 stars Ron Superior" marketed in the 1960s and imported by the Italian Gancia & Savas.

The blend made up of this ron was then not the same as today and gave pride of place to a richer (heavy) rum distilled on their 1934 Vendome column.

The Don Q brand - named after the famous protagonist of Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote - was first introduced in 1934. Produced at the Serrallés distillery in Puerto Rico, it is the result of the assembly of light rums distilled in columns (in operation since 2007) and heavier rums produced from the original 1934 column (Vendome).
