Founded in 1753, the Jamaican Hampden distillery has long dedicated its production to trade bottling. It took 265 years, or 2018, to see it release its own aged rums on the international scene. With an extraordinary aromatic richness, its rums are distinguished by an ancestral manufacturing process that has not changed since its creation.
A follower of natural fermentation, the distillery does not add any yeast during fermentation, which takes place naturally for more than seven days in open wooden vats. Even the water, which comes from a nearby valley, plays a major role due to its richness in microbiological flora.
The distillation, finally, remained traditional and is carried out using four pot stills which make it possible to produce both light rums ("light") and heavy rums ("heavy"), more or less rich in esters.
