Bologne

Installed on the slopes of the Soufrière since the 17th century, the Bologne plantation experienced different types of crops until the middle of the 19th century when the monoculture of sugar cane was developed on all its plots.

Founded in 1930, the Bologne distillery is the oldest and the second largest distillery on the island of Guadeloupe, in the region of Basse-Terre. Enjoying a unique volcanic soil, its cane plantations extend over nearly 150 hectares, located in Saint-Claude and Capesterre (on the western and eastern flanks of Soufrière).

Even today, Bologne is the only distillery in Guadeloupe that continues to grow black cane, a variety forgotten because of its low yield.
