Established in 1779 by John Simpson, Bowmore is a whiskey distillery located in the village of the same name on the island of Islay on the west coast of Scotland. It is the oldest official distillery on the island. In 1963, it passed into the hands of the company Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd, itself bought in 1994 by the Japanese company Suntory.
