The history of the Espérance distillery, at the origin of Longueteau rums, began in 1895 when Louis-Philippe Henry Longueteau bought a neighboring sugar refinery with the aim of setting up a distillery there and starting to produce rum.
More profitable than sugar, rum flows for the very first time on the estate of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. In 1927, Henri Longueteau Jr. took over, modernizing the infrastructure by replacing the old waterwheel with a steam engine powered by bagasse. Then it was around Paul-Henri Longueteau to take over the family business in 1968. His son François, the current owner, began working with him from 1979.
A family tradition that has endured for more than a century
