Flor de Cana

The distillery at the origin of Flor de Caña rum is located at the foot of the San Cristobal volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Nicaragua. While this rum was first bottled in 1937, its origins date back to 1890, when Alfredo Francisco Pellas founded a huge sugar cane plantation near Chichigalpa, Nicaragua.

It was his family who set up the Compania Licorera de Nicaragua distillery and who still runs it today. Buoyed by its success and after a first phase of modernization in 1963, a second distillery was opened in 1973, this time in Honduras. A second major modernization will even take place in 1996, propelling the brand to the forefront of the international scene. Flor de Cana now has one of the largest stocks of old rums in the world.
